Thompson Group Ltd is a company born over the span of several decades, their roots are in the cycle and motorcycle business established in the old East Riding of Yorkshire back in 1910 progressing to become Thompsons of Beverley.

From 1973 to 1986 the company operated as a DAF Trucks franchise, changing to Renault Trucks in 1986. Thompson of Beverley went from strength to strength hosting many events at their premises and attending Driffield Show regularly, amongst other shows.

Many of the customers we deal with today are old customers. We strive to build successful and lasting relationships with all of our customers, new and old.
1996 saw Thompson of Beverley move to purpose-built Premises in Kingston upon Hull and became Thompson Commercials Ltd, continuing successfully as a Renault Trucks dealer.

In 2000 a management buyout was undertaken and Thompson Commercials Ltd came under the ownership of five men who had worked at Thompson Commercials Ltd for most of their working lives. Acquiring our Boroughbridge depot in the process.

The company then went on to win the prestigious Motor Transport Award in 2001.

By 2004 the Company had also acquired a depot in Teesside and Tyneside adding depots in Grimsby, Sheffield and Boston not long after.
Our sister company Premium Leasing Ltd was formed in 2010 allowing us to offer our customers a wider range of services in the Contract Hire department. Thompson Group Ltd was born.

April 2012 saw Thompson Group Ltd adding an Isuzu Franchise to their resume, an exciting prospect for the company to be heading into new waters and being able to offer our customers an even wider range of vehicles to cater for their needs.

Rainton, our newest purpose-built depot located off the A1 near Ripon, was completed in late 2016 and now looks great.

Thompsons became a proud partner of electric commercial vehicle contract hire company Vertellus in November 2022. The Vertellus EV Discovery Programme assists customers with a smooth transition to new technology and enables them to drive a sustainable, greener fleet.

In June 2023, Thompson Commercials Ltd unveiled its new branding, including the company's updated name and logo 'Thompsons'. The new branding emphasizes its reputation and commitment to keeping its customers on the road as the UK's leading independent Renault Trucks dealership.

As technology evolves with the push towards electric vehicles, Thompsons are investing in its own carbon footprint and looking for innovative ways to support its partners on their journey too.
