Thompsons recruits apprentices annually and is always looking for passionate individuals to join our team.
An apprenticeship with Thompsons is an opportunity for you to work with some of the most modern and technologically advanced vehicles on the road today. There has never been a better time to work in the commercial vehicle industry. Everything you see in your home from food, clothes, medicines, technology and more is all delivered by a truck or van.
At Thompsons, apprentices will have the opportunity to become part of a fast-paced and exciting industry that offers immense career prospects. Apprenticeships set you up with a career for life and they are one of the best ways to receive first-class on-the-job training. As we continue to grow, we are looking for the next generation of technicians to join us and make our company even more successful.
Apprentices are the future of our business, and we will give you the necessary knowledge and skills required to service and maintain the trucks and vans that are so vital to the economy. You will earn a competitive wage while you develop knowledge and practical skills in the dealership. You will be required to attend a training college where you will work towards a nationally recognised qualification.
As an HGV technician, you will primarily be responsible for servicing, maintaining, and diagnosing the vehicles. During the apprenticeship, you will gain problem-solving, organizational, communication, and computer skills, which are key to thriving in the role.
Technical roles in the Commercial Vehicle industry are amongst the most important. And with technology changing at an ever-increasing pace, it is important that we’re constantly bringing through a fresh wave of talent to enrol on to our first-class apprenticeship programme, provided by Remit Training.
The 3-year programmes consist of a combination of technical and academic learning and take place from a Remit facility based in either Derby or Glasgow. On top of this, apprentices put theory into practice by working within a Renault Trucks dealership, supported by a nominated mentor.
After an apprentice has successfully completed their probation period, they have the option to take advantage of a free toolbox provided by the company if they wish. (terms apply)
“My manager is very supportive with my apprenticeship work and my assessor is always at the end of the phone and is always in communication with myself and my manager. I would recommend working here to anyone that is interested in a role with Thompson Commercials, who are the largest privately owned Renault Truck dealership in the UK.” – HGV Apprentice (Hull)
